Boxing has lost a warrior and fraternity brother in Maxim Dadashev, who has sadly passed away this morning from injuries sustained in a bout last Friday that was aired on ESPN from Oxon Hill, Maryland. He was 28 years old.
Dadashev was fighting in his fourteenth professional fight against fellow undefeated fighter Subriel Matias, who was punishing him with hard blows, when his trainer Buddy McGirt talked Dadshev and his corner into stopping the fight before the twelfth and final round.
McGirt saw that his fighter was taking lots of punishment and fading so he wisely stepped in to stop the fight, saying today to ESPN “It just makes you realize what type of sport we’re in, man, one punch is all it takes.”
Dadashev had collapsed immediately after the fight, not making it to the dressing room and began vomiting. He was taken from the arena on a stretcher and then was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he underwent emergency brain surgery for two hours in an attempt to relieve the bleeding on the brain.
He was in a medically induced coma to relieve pressure on his brain but sadly lost the final fight against the injuries sustained just this morning.
The WBA family sends their condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Dadashev, may the warrior rest in peace.
