The March 12 fight at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, between WBA World welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and former IBF World welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs) has been postponed.
Thurman was injured in a car accident, and while the injuries are not considered serious, they are serious enough to have postponed one of the most anticipated bouts of the year.
Thurman vs. Porter was to be televised live in primetime on CBS as the main event of a two-fight card presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
“While it’s unfortunate that we must temporarily postpone this marquee matchup,” said Lou DiBella, the de facto promoter of the fight, “a main event of the magnitude of Thurman vs. Porter requires both fighters be healthy and at their best. Keith is anxious to resume training as soon he is able and both he and Shawn are looking forward to a new fight date.”
