The joins the celebration

The World Boxing Association’s family joins the birthday celebration of a great friend, Donny Lalonde, who is now 52 years old.

He was born in Ontario, Canada, on March 12, 1960 under the name of Donald Drew Lalonde.

He first walked into a boxing gym when he was seventeen. He got into boxing “to try to reestablish self-esteem, respect, pride,” he said. “Boxing is a way of doing that.”
Lalonde had an amateur record of 11-4 and turned professional in 1980.

His last fight was on July 7, 2003, when he lost before Virgil Hill, in Winnipeg.

He finished with a record of 44-5-1 with 36 knockouts. He lost five times; two of them by knock out and had only one draw in his Light Heavyweight career.

La AMB se une a la celebración de un amigo

La familia de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo se une hoy a la celebración del nacimiento de un amigo, Donny Lalonde, quien arriba este lunes a sus 52 años de vida.

Nació en Ontario, Canadá, bajo el nombre de Donald Drew Lalonde, el 12 de marzo de 1960.

A los 17 años acudió por primera vez a un gimnasio y comenzó a involucrarse en el boxeo, con la idea de “recuperar la autoestima, el respeto por mí mismo y orgullo”, con el tiempo Lalonde aseguró que el boxeo le permitió hacer todo eso.

Su récord en el renglón aficionado fue de 11-4, hasta que saltó al rentado en 1980.

Su última pelea fue el 7 de julio de 2003, cuando cayó ante Virgil Hill, en Winnipeg.

Lalonde terminó con 44 victorias, 33 por KO, y tan solo 8 por decisión. Perdió en cinco oportunidades, dos veces por la vía rápida, y tuvo un empate en su carrera en los semi pesados.

Felicidades a quien fuera un modelo de deportista, y es un amigo de la familia  AMB.
