American Antonio Vargas won the Continental Americas bantamweight title after defeating Venezuelan Michell Banquez by technical knockout on Saturday night during their bout held at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
Vargas had a dominant performance and caused the stoppage at the height of the sixth episode, when his dominance over his opponent was already very evident.
The 26-year-old fighter took a big step in his career by winning the regional crown against a good opponent like the South American.
It was the fourth knockout in a row for the Houston native, who is on a good streak and hasn’t lost a fight since 2019. He now waits for better opportunities and starts to make a name for himself in the tough 118-pound division.
With his victory, Vargas reached 16 wins, 1 loss and 9 knockouts, while Banquez left his aftertaste at 20 wins, 3 losses and 14 defined by knockout.
