Tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the WBA has hired five professional judges to score the fight between Bryan Vasquez (34-1, 18 KOs) and Javier Fortuna (27-0-1, 20 KOs) for the vacant WBA World super featherweight title.
The five anonymous judges will watch the fight live on Spike TV with the sound muted. Their scores will be entered after each round into a website application and streamed in real-time to both the WBA and the NYSAC.
This new technology, created and managed by the Pod Index, LLC, is also being used by the California State Athletic Commission and helps boxing and MMA administrators evaluate round-by-round scores. It is also used as a training tool for judges.
According to WBA Vice President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, “Having these anonymous judges score the fight live, rather than after the fact, lends even more credibility to the evaluation process.”
