Zulia’s Geremi Vera continued his ascending march in Venezuelan professional boxing, by convincingly defeating Ronaldo Chacón, from the capital city, over the weekend, in the fourth edition of the WBA Future program, which took place in the ring of the Yesterday Recreational Center of Maracay.
At the end of the six round fight, Vera won the flyweight category by unanimous decision (58-56, 60-54 and 60-54), extending his undefeated record to six fights. Chacon had a record of four wins, two losses and two draws.
It was the fourth edition of the professional boxing development program promoted by the World Boxing Association.
In this vibrant day in Maracay, eight professional fights were held. Seven of them went to the limit, offering quality rounds by the fighters who were present.
Prospect Gleybert “Canelito” Maia offered another good demonstration of his skills, winning by unanimous decision over bantamweight debutant Frank Rodriguez (0-1-0). It was the fourth victory for “Canelito”, undefeated in four outings.
In the lightweight division, Brian Rodríguez (4-0-0) defeated Carlos Mujica (1-2-0) in six rounds by unanimous decision, while in the featherweight division, Pablo Molina (1-2-2) defeated Dereck Areinamo (0-2-0), also by unanimous decision.
In other results, featherweight Armando Suarez (3-1-0) defeated Jose Perez (0-4-0) by four round decision; Jeiber Sanchez (3-0-1) defeated Gustavo Nunez (0-3-0) in the super featherweight division; and Alexander Jimenez (4-0-0) defeated Jose Mejias (0-3-0), in another featherweight bout.
Newcomer Kleymer Madrid delivered the only knockout of the day, sending fellow newcomer Werner Sanchez to the canvas.
This March 30, boxing will return to Yesterday, with the celebration of the Gilberto Mendoza Festival, which will bring together amateur fighters to celebrate the legacy of the WBA President Emeritus.
The WBA Future is expected to deliver a new edition in April.
