The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee notified Thammanoon Niyomtrong and Erick Rosa that they must fight to determine the only minimum weight champion for the pioneer organization.
This Thursday, September 29, the communication was sent to both parties for the beginning of the negotiation period, which will be 30 days and will end next October 28.
Niyomtrong’s super champion status was conditioned to a period of 18 months. Since he has had that status since November 29, 2018, the period expired last May 28, 2020, so he must immediately face Rosa, who is the official challenger.
If both teams do not reach an agreement within the deadline or any of the parties refuses to do so, the WBA may proceed to call for a purse bid.
