The WBA’s 89th Annual Convention has been confirmed for Managua, Nicaragua on November 22-27 and will pay special tribute to the memory of Alexis Arguello, who died last year. “Alexis was a great friend of the WBA and of my father the Dr. Mendoza, this is a small homage that the WBA wants to offer in his memory,” said WBA Executive Vice-president Gilberto Jesús Mendoza Jr.
The WBA has also recognized the effort of officials in Nicaragua to organize this convention, especially Renzo Bagnariol/WBA International Director member, General Juan Alberto Molinares/Nicaraguan Boxing Commission President and boxing promoter PRODESA, which will present a special boxing card during the convention. Former world champion Juan Palacios could face an opponent to be named for a WBA world title in the headliner. Among the expected guests are WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov, WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and the former heavyweight champion George Foreman among others.
