Former World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Cruiserweight and World Heavyweight Champion David Haye has decided to hang up the boxing gloves for good.

Recently the “Hayemaker” was seen in the ring in a rematch against Tony Bellew, where he was stopped in the fifth round by “The Bomber” Bellew. There were rumors that he was going to hang up the gloves and now he has officially announced his retirement at the age of 37 years old.

Looking back at Hayes career, he first won the WBA Super World Cruiserweight Title against Jean Marc Mormeck in November of 2011 in exciting fashion as he stopped Mormeck in the seventh round with a Hayemaker signature right hand.

Haye then defended the WBA cruiserweight title one time against Enzo Maccarinelli – ending that fight with another emphatic knockout in the second round – before moving up to the heavyweight division.

Haye challenged the 7’ tall Russian giant Nikolay Valuev for the WBA heavyweight title in a bout billed as “David vs Goliath”, with Haye earning the majority decision on the judges’ scorecards in November of 2009.

Haye then defended the WBA heavyweight title twice, with stoppage victories over John Ruiz and Audley Harrison, before losing the WBA title to Wladimir Klitschko via unanimous decision in a mega bout that took place in Germany in July of 2011.

Hayes last big “hurrah” was winning the WBA inter-continental title via TKO victory over Dereck Chisora in July of 2012 before retiring from boxing for 3.5 years, only to come back for a series of smaller bouts before facing Tony Bellew two times.

Happy retirement to David Haye, who will always be known for having a heavy knockout punch as he scored 26 of his 28 victories via the knockout route.
