Erika Cruz returns home as the World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight champion to defend her crown this Saturday against Nazarena Romero at the Palenque de la Feria in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The home fighter will make her first defense of the title she won last November 18 after defeating Mayerlin Rivas during their bout held in Los Angeles, California.
After being WBA featherweight champion in the past, she now moved down a division and became champion again at 122 pounds. Cruz is a sharp, southpaw fighter who always goes forward and has given several best female fights in recent years, such as her outstanding performance in her loss to Amanda Serrano, which was one of the most entertaining fights of all of 2023.
Romero is the mandatory challenger in the category and has experience in world title fights just against Mayerlin Rivas last June. Romero drew with the Venezuelan by technical decision in Buenos Aires after a cut that did not allow her to continue when the fight was just in the fifth round. However, now she has a new opportunity in away condition.
Cruz has a record of 17 wins, 2 losses and 3 knockouts. For his part, Romero comes into the bout with 13 wins, no losses, 1 draw and 7 knockouts.
