The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee granted special permission to American Daniel Roman, current Super Bantamweight Champion of the organization, in order to unify his belt against the Irishman residing in Australia Terrence John Doheny, who holds the belt of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

In this way, the call to auction that the committee had made to Romans team was suspended so that it could be measured against Murodjon Akhmadaliev, who is the mandatory challenger of the 122-pound champion. However, the winner of the unification contest must face the Uzbekistan fighter before carrying out any other battle within a period of 90 days.

While the Roman-Doheny confrontation takes place, Akhmadaliev will be able to make a fight against an opponent of his choice and will still keep the rights recognized by the WBA as mandatory challenger to the Super Bantamweight Title of the organization.

The permit is granted in accordance with section C, article C. 47 of the WBA regulation, which states that: “Special permits may be conditionally granted or denied for good cause. They will be approved by a vote of the WBA Championships Committee. The Committee and the President must consider what is best for the interests of boxing (…) when approving the request, the WBA may require the conditions it deems necessary … “.

Roman won the WBA championship in 2017, when he defeated the Japanese native Shun Kubo and has defended the title three times. His record is 26 wins, 2 losses, one draw, with 10 knockouts. For his part, Doheny won the IBF title last August 2018 after defeating the Japanese native Ryosuke Iwasa and defended it successfully on one occasion. His resume is immaculate with 21 fights won, 15 of them via knockout.
