The World Boxing Association (WBA) mourns the passing of Colombian boxer Luis Quiñones, who was fighting for his life for the past four days after his fight on Saturday.

Quiñones’ family and medical team confirmed that the 25-year-old fighter passed away at dawn this Friday morning. Last Saturday he fought Luis Muñoz in Barranquilla and in the ninth round he collapsed and had to be taken immediately to a medical center.

He was diagnosed with a contusion on the right side of his head, so he was put in an induced coma under the observation of the medical staff. However, this Thursday his family confirmed that he was brain dead and was connected to a respirator.

Hours later, Quiñones’ unfortunate death was confirmed in one of the saddest news in the sport this year. The WBA sends its words of condolences to Quiñones’ family and friends at this very difficult time. May he rest in peace.
