WBA rankings had great movement in February

The second month of the year had good boxing activity and this was reflected in the movements of the February ranking of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

At heavyweight, Cuban Lenier Peró moved up from 6th to 5th place after his victory over Viktor Vykhryst last month. In cruiserweight, Chris Billam Smith moved up to 2nd place, Aleksei Egorov to 3rd, while the rest moved up one spot on the list as well. The moves at 200 lbs. are due to Badou Jack leaving the rankings after winning another organization title, while the same happened to Kamshybek Kunbayaev due to the low level of his opposition in his most recent fight.

At super middleweight, Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga was dropped from the rankings for inactivity. At middleweight, Ryota Murata announced his retirement and was also removed from the list. At super welterweight, Caoimhin Agyarko was removed from the list due to seven months of inactivity, while Oceania champion Koen Mazoudier entered the list in 13th place.

In welterweight, Jamal James moved up from No. 10 to No. 9 after defeating Alberto Palmetta last Saturday. In turn, Palmetta dropped from 9 to 10. In super lightweight, Phoobadin Yoohangoh moved up from 13th to 12th, while Continental champion Adam Azim entered the ranking in 14th place, while Canadian Lucas Bahdi exited the ranking.

Albert Batyrgaziev, who won against Jezreel Corrales, moved up slightly in the rankings and dropped out of the list. Irishman Gary Cully moved up from 12 to 10. In featherweight, there was a new champion with Mauricio Lara’s win over Leigh Wood on February 18.

In the flyweight category, Ricardo Sandoval moved up from 8 to 5, while Andy Domínguez moved up from 12 to 11. In the minimum weight category, Oscar Collazo, who was first in the ranking, left the list because he will fight for the world title of another organization.
