The World Boxing Association sanctioned 71 title fights during 2014, beating the previous year with 65 fights.
Of those fights, 13 were held in December, the busiest Championship month, while April and September totaled 9 fights each making them the other busiest months.
The first bout sanctioned by the WBA in 2014 was the 10th title defense of the 160-lbs Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, against Osumanu Adama made in Monaco on 1 February. The Kazakh won by TKO 7.
The WBA sanctioned 9 super championship fights, 5 unifications and one the same number of vacant title, 24 optional and 23 interims.
As for the results of those 71 fights, we have that 14 ended by KO, and 24 ended by TKO. 21 ended by unanimous decisions, 5 split decisions and 5 majority decisions.
There were two technical decisions, one on May 31 in Macao, China between Nonito Donaire and Simpawe Vetyeka, and the other on September 26 between Juan Carlos Payano and Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno.
