A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Ecuador Saturday. At least 413 people have been killed, thousands have been injured, and over 1500 buildings have been damaged.
It is the worst tragedy to hit Ecuador in over 70 years.
“I fear that figure will go up because we keep on removing rubble,” said President Rafael Correa in a televised address. “There are signs of life in the rubble, and that is being prioritized.”
The cost of rebuilding the country will be billions of dollars.
The World Boxing Association expresses its solidarity with the Ecuadorian people during this difficult and has put forth a resolution in support of Ecuador.
Our prayers are with our neighbors to the south.
We sincerely hope Ecuador soon recovers from this terrible tragedy.
