WBA tested electronic scoring system in Jamaica

WBA Press. December 12.- During the last KO Drugs held in Kingston, Jamaica, the World Boxing Association tested its new electronic scoring system, created to be used in the future.

The technology department of the WBA developed the software to be used in tablets. The officials’ attending the program in Jamaica had the opportunity to test the software.

This system allows the officials score the fights and upload the score to a database.

“This enables the public to follow the scores of the fights online in real time through a website. Besides, as soon as the fight is over, all the scores will be uploaded to the World Boxing Association website” pointed out Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, WBA Vice-president.

Mendoza also said that this system will allow the WBA to make different analysis of consistencies, of the official scoring among others, that could be also seen as soon as the fights are over.

The system consists in an electronic score card, presented in a Tablet and where the officials will cast their score just as they do in a paper score card. It is made round by round “and in the case of Jamaica the scores were presented every four rounds and were displayed in the internet”.

The use of this software will substitute the paper score-cards and will give the official scoring more transparency. “It will also allow a fastest analysis of the scores in the scores” stated the WBA Director.
