Tonight at the fights at Centro de Convenciones El Cifco in San Salvador, El Salvador, presented in conjunction with the XXXIII KO Drugs program, the World Boxing Association is using an electronic scoring system that will enable the WBA to evaluate the three judges’ scores in real time, by having several other judges scoring the fight as well.
The system has been tested in other fights, including the 2012 championship in Kingston, Jamaica, between Nicholas Walters and Daulis Prescott for the vacant WBA World featherweight title.
According to WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, along with the directors George Martinez, Aurelio Fiengo and Miguel Prado, the electronic evaluation system will include a half point option in every fight on tonight’s card, including the title fight between bantamweights Sayda Mosquera and Dayana Cordero for the interim WBA World Women’s Championship.
The judges participating are Levi Martinez, Rodolfo Aguilar and Raul Caiz Jr. (US), Gustavo Jarquín and Ramon Gonzalez (Nicaragua), Gustavo Padilla, Ignacio Robles, Hadilton Jimenez and Octavio Rodriguez (Panama), and Rigoberto Marcano (Venezuela).
