WBA Executive Vice President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza wants a board of 21 WBA executives to review and issue a vote on Saturday’s controversial bantamweight fight from the Polideportivo José María Vargas in La Guaira, Venezuela. The fight saw WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (29-1-1, 10KOs) win a controversial twelve round split-decision over previously undefeated interim-champion Nehomar Cermeño (19-1, 11KOs). Mendoza thinks Cermeño was the clear winner and wants the fighters to have an immediate rematch. Judges Uriel Aguilera (114-113) and Nelson Vasquez (115-112) for the champion and judge Levi Martinez saw the interim-champion take it with 115-112.
“Personally I saw Cermeño winning. But a rematch is a decision for the organization and the 21 voters have a say. I think as the leader on this issue, I will refrain (from voting) and let them decide on the issue. It was a great fight, close, and that’s what the judges saw. Now the agency will review it and I’m sure they will make the most appropriate decision,” Mendoza said
