This week was announced the second fight between Mauricio Lara and Leigh Wood, which will take place in Manchester on May 27 for the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight belt.
The Mexican champion granted Wood a rematch and will once again travel to England, where he knocked him out on February 18. But for Wood this will be a new fight in which he needs another strategy.
His trainer Ben Davison spoke to IFL TV and assured that they need to change things and the main one is to be smarter and not fall into exchanges of punches with Lara. Wood had been winning the fight up to the moment of the knockout and his intention is not to get into the fight that suits the Mexican.
On the other hand, Davison gave his appreciation about the stoppage of the fight, which drew attention because Wood felt he could continue. The trainer said that he did not feel he could defend himself at that moment and that he has been in many fights like that and has allowed his pupil to continue, but on this occasion he did not believe Wood was in a position to defend himself.
The second fight against Lara will be even more complicated for Wood as he must overcome the February knockout, change strategy and avoid power punches. It will be an interesting showdown between two elite fighters who already put up a great fight in the first opportunity.
