The last press conference prior to the bout between World Boxing Association Super Flyweight Champion Khalid Yafai (21-0, 14 KOs) and challenger Suguru Muranaka (25-2-1, 8 KOs) was held this Thursday in Birmingham, where both fighters will face each other next Saturday.
The British’s first defense promises to be an interesting fight against a Japanese who has little to lose in the showdown. Both fighters spoke to the press and were very enthusiastic about the fight.
In the case of Yafai, it will be the first time he goes in the ring as a champion in his native Birmingham, after having conquered his crown in Manchester against Luis Concepción. That is exactly what the current WBA monarch said: “I cannot wait to be back. What else can I ask for than being in my hometown”.
The Japanese made it clear that he is very well prepared and that despite his little international experience he will make an intelligent fight to snatch the belt from Yafai.
The weigh-in ceremony will take place on Friday, and on Saturday the Barclaycard Arena will witness this great WBA World Championship at 115 pounds.
