This Saturday, May 26th, at the Selland Arena in Fresno California World Boxing Association (WBA) World Super Flyweight Champion Khalid Yafai (23-0, 14KO’s) is set to defend his title against David Carmona (21-5-5, 9KO’s). The bout will be aired on ESPN+, the new streaming service by the sports giant that costs $5 per month and gives you bouts not aired on their regular network.
Yafai will be making the third defense of his title after winning the vacant title in a bout against the tough veteran Luis Concepcion in December of 2016. Yafai then successfully defended against Suguru Muranaka in May of 2017 and is now coming in off of a unanimous decision victory over Sho Ishida, handing the Japanese fighter his first defeat as a professional.
Yafai has been training with Robert Garcia at his Boxing Academy gym in Oxnard in preparation for his first fight on United States soil. Yafai is very excited for the opportunity as he is ready to take on the best in the division while hoping to step up in name recognition.
His opponent David Carmona is a battle tested veteran that is coming into the fight off a TKO victory over Jesus Uribe in March of this year. Previous to that he has shared the ring with some great fighters, going the distance with Carlos Cuadras and Naoya Inoue while suffering a TKO loss to Omar Narvaez back in 2013.
