Khalid Yafai retained his Super Flyweight crown from the World Boxing Association (WBA) by beating Israel Gonzalez via unanimous decision. The beautiful Casino de Monte Carlo served as the setting for the fight in which the champion held his fourth successful defense since winning the title last year.

The judges’ cards were 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112. The challenger left a good impression and offered good resistance in many rounds, which meant a complicated challenge for the champion; however, Yafai knew how to go from less to more to overcome the difficulties and finish on top at the end of 12 rounds.

The champion had to deal with a young man like Gonzalez, who took advantage of his slight advantage in height to hit well from a distance in several of the exchanges. A cut at the height of the fifth round affected the challenger a bit, which showed the good work done by Yafai.
Currently, Yafai has a record of 25 wins without defeat and 15 knockouts, while Gonzalez left his record in 23 wins, 3 losses and 10 knockouts.
