Former World Boxing Association super bantamweight champion Victor “Luvi” Callejas was appointed as President of the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission by the Ricardo Rossello.

Callejas, who is also WBA Director of Integral Development Boxers Welfare was appointed on April 4, in a public ceremony and pledged to work for the development of boxing in the region. In addition, among his goals is to team up with amateur Boxing Federation of Puerto Rico to hold similar policies to the WBA’s.

“I am very happy and I want to tell the fighters that they can trust me. They will soon have my phone number and, together, we will develop this sport” said former world champion.

“The idea is bring back the big promoters as before and to enforce our rules. If the weighing is announced at a specific time, it has to be done, because it is for the boxer’s benefit. In addition, I think we should join the Boxing Federation so that amateur and professional boxing go hand in hand, “said Callejas.

“Luvi” has always been closed to the WBA, and in 1982 was together Gilberto Mendoza, President Emeritus of the organization during his election as the President of the oldest boxing organization.
