The World Boxing Association (WBA) Centennial Convention began this Sunday morning with the Directorate Meeting led by the president of the organization, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, all the directors were in the Main Hall of the Caribe Royale Hotel, Orlando, for the first shift of work during the celebration of the 100 years.
The meeting consisted of two sessions, in which different topics were discussed and there were several special guests.
Mendoza welcomed the directors and all those present. After some emotional words about what Orlando has meant historically for the Mendoza family and the WBA, presented his presidential report, with a summary of the activity of the entity in recent years was made.
Withing his report, Mendoza talked about the status of all the projects carried out by the AMB and their evolution through a video projected at the meeting. He highlighted the plan to reduce the number of world titles, which managed to reduce the number of champions from 54 to 24 in a work that continues to achieve only one champion per category.
The recent agreement between the WBA and the IBA to jointly promote amateur boxing at the world level was also discussed. The WBA Academy was another topics discussed and its influence on the training of all those involved in the sport, while the WBA Challenge, a program of professional events, was also a topic to be discussed.
It was a fruitful meeting after several years without a face-to-face meeting of the entire WBA senior staff. The activities of the convention will continue until December 14.
