Braekhus earns female boxer of the month honors

The World Boxing Association (WBA) announced the women’s rankings and the most outstanding female fighters in December and the Norwegian native Cecilia Braekhus received the Boxer of the Month distinction thanks to her great performance during the final stretch of 2018.

Braekhus was born in Colombia but obtained Norwegian nationality and closed with a flourish in 2018 with a victory over the American of Polish origin Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes by way of unanimous decision. In doing so, Braekhus retained his WBA welterweight belt and the rest of the belts of the most important world organizations. The 37-year-old veteran remains unbeaten in her career with 35 wins, 9 of them by knockout.

For her part, Katie Taylor was recently named Boxer of the Year by the WBA and received the Honorable Mention of December after defeating the Finnish native Eva Wahlstrom and retained her lightweight crown. The Irish woman made her last presentation of the year in a convincing way and expects bigger challenges in 2019.

The rankings of the 16 female weight categories of the WBA are published on the official website of the pioneer organization with the respective movements and champions of each weight.
