Cecilia Braekhus defended her welterweight title belt of the World Boxing Association (WBA) with another spectacular exhibition against Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes. The StubHub Center, in Carson California, was the site for HBO to close its boxing transmissions after decades of mythical fights. It closed out the broadcast with a women’s boxing title fight in which the best pound for pound fighter in the world was involved.
The Norwegian champion of Colombian origin got the victory via scorecards of 100-90, 99-91 and 100-90, which allowed her to retain her crown and the rest of the important 147-pound lineal championship titles against the Polish-born American Magdziak Lopes.
The 37-year veteran closed 2018 with 3 bouts, all won convincingly, and completed her record 23rd defense of the WBA championship. Braekhus remains at the top of world boxing and in 2019 she hopes to achieve even greater challenges to continue writing her legendary story.
Now, the champion has 35 wins, no losses, and 9 knockouts, while the challenger fell to a balance of 18 wins, 5 losses, 3 draws and 1 knockout.
