The countdown to the fight between Shannon Courtenay and Jamie Mitchell now has one less day to count down, as on Thursday they both participated in the final press conference and now they only have to attend the weigh-in ceremony on Friday before their fight on Saturday for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Female bantamweight belt.
The Echo Arena, in Liverpool, will enjoy a great event this weekend and both fighters will be an important part of this event. Courtenay will defend her belt for the first time after defeating Ebanie Bridges in April and winning the 118 lbs. crown.
She knows what kind of opponent she is facing. Jamie Mitchell is one of those fighters who has been waiting for an opportunity like this for years. She has had to overcome many things in her life and has preached that her effort is the engine to have what she has achieved, that’s why she is nicknamed “The Miracle”. Now she has the chance of a lifetime and she doesn’t plan to waste it.
For that reason, Courtenay was categorical in her statements and stressed on several occasions that her belt will not leave the United Kingdom. She understands perfectly well how motivated the challenger is and concentration is her key to not be surprised at home.
Mitchell looked very confident and with a clear goal. She is focused on winning the title and getting the black and gold belt.
This Friday both will have to weigh 118 pounds on the scales and once they pass it, they will be ready to fight for the belt. Courtenay has 7 wins, 1 loss and 3 knockouts. Mitchell, on the other hand, has 6 wins, no setbacks, 2 draws and 4 knockouts.
