Katie Taylor is set to return to the ring this week at the Headingley Rugby League Stadium in Leeds, England to defend her World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight championship against American Jennifer Han.
In addition to the black and gold belt, the undisputed champion will put her WBC, WBO and IBF crowns on the line. The Irishwoman is the best pound-for-pound lightweight fighter in the world today and is looking for a new victory in her successful career.
After dominating as amateur, she is doing the same at the professional level and is the face of women’s boxing in the world today. In her most recent fight she dominated Natasha Jonas by unanimous decision during a hard fought battle against a great opponent.
On the other side is Han, a veteran who is a former world featherweight champion and has now moved up a division to take on new challenges. She comes in with eight straight wins and little to lose in this showdown.
Various promotional activities will take place this week and on Friday will be the official weigh-in ceremony. Taylor is undefeated in 18 fights, with 6 knockouts, while Han has a record of 18 wins, 3 setbacks, 1 draw and 1 knockout.
