World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight Champion Katie Taylor will defend her black and gold belt in a second fight against Delfine Persoon on August 22nd at the Marchroom Boxing Camp in Brentwood, UK.
Taylor and Persoon featured the 2019 Female Fight of the Year, and their return to the ring after last year’s closely contested match is great news for boxing. On that occasion, Taylor won by majority decision at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
Matchroom Boxing announced the fight on Thursday through its social media. Taylor has been champion since October 28th, 2017 when she beat Anahi Sanchez to win the vacant 135-pound belt. Since then, she has defended the championship seven times and now she will go to her eighth defense against the most complicated opponent she has ever had in her professional career.
The 34-year-old queen and 2012 Olympic gold medal winner has a record of 15 wins, no losses and 6 KOs, while Persoon, who has just participated in the European Olympic qualifiers, has a record of 44 wins, 2 setbacks and 18 KOs.
