The fight between Irish Katie Taylor and Spanish Miriam Gutierrez will be one of the most important in the boxing world this Saturday. They will be fighting at Wembley for the World Boxing Association (WBA) IBF, WBC and WBO Lightweight belts.

This Thursday they went face to face during the official press conference before their fight, and both spoke to the media about their expectations regarding the main fight of the Matchroom event.

“I never get sick of looking at all the belts – it’s something I’ve worked extremely hard for,” said Taylor about what she has accomplished in her career.

She has a little-known opponent in front of her, who has achieved great things and will now have the opportunity to measure herself against Taylor, so she does not intend to underestimate her.

“One punch can change a fight in professional boxing. She is an unbeaten fighter and better than people expect. Hopefully I will do a bit of everything – outbox her and outfight her. There are no easy fights at this stage. This is a huge opportunity for her,” said the cautious champion.

The challenger did not hide her eagerness and desire to enter the ring for the big fight ahead of her this Saturday night in Britain: “I can’t wait for it to start. I’m looking forward to this fight. It’s been a long wait, especially inside this bubble, which is a little different, but I’m really looking forward to the fight.”

“I admire Katie a lot for what she has achieved in both amateur and professional boxing. But this is something I have worked for all my life and I am focused on the fight,” said Gutierrez about the champion.

This Friday, both fighters will step on the scale. They will have to mark no more than 135 pounds to be ready to enter the ring on Saturday night.
