Saturday night at the Khodynka Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia, WBA Super World cruiserweight champion Dennis Lebedev (29-1, 22 KOs), the 36-year-old southpaw from Chekhov, Russia, iced IBF World champion Victor Emilio Ramirez (22-3-1, 17 KOs), from Buenos Aires, Argentina, in two rounds.
Lebedev wasted no time. In round two he landed a hook that dazed Ramirez. Lebedev jumped on him and landed punches until Ramirez fell. He beat the count but was defenseless. He was eating shots along the ropes. The referee had seen enough. Steve Smoger waved it off at 1:57.
“It’s excellent,” said Lebedev after the fight. “I knew what he was capable of and the tactics that my trainers had carefully worked out came good.”
Congratulations to Denis Lebedev for unifying the WBA/IBF cruiserweight world titles.
It was a great performance by a great champion.
